Ditto what Tim said. GSAK and CacheMate are highly recommended.

I started using GSAK a couple of months ago when I got back into
paperless caching... It has quickly become an indispensable part of my
caching experience. GSAK on the desktop and CacheMate on the palmtop...
a winning combination. I still use ExpertGPS for mapping as well.
