If its a linear (as the crow flies) trip, they would be around a 35-45
degree climb.  If the trail has switchbacks then your distance walked
would be quite considerably more than 0.23 miles.  But from what I've
heard of your hiking methods, you'd probably shave some of that back
closer to 0.23.

The thing to worry about is when the distance is 1000 feet, and it's
all vertical... then you get your balloon back out again.
