For what it's worth, the functionality really hasn't changed.  For the
most part (at least as I use it), they only updated the roads.  So, if
you can find the 2002 version at a bargain price, it's worth grabbing.

Same here.  I have been using MapPoint for about 3 years, even though I
have an older version, 2002, I have been very happy with it.
