What is an 'Old School' geocacher?? We started in October 2003.... I
have read postings from cachers that are a bit older than us and enjoyed
them as well as learned from them. We have been quite lately because of
a serious leg injury to me that keeps me home bound for the time being.

I guess I would say "old school" are those that started in the 2001 to
2003 range. When we started here in Tucson, there were really only two
here, us and Team Scotti. For awhile there, we were just hiding caches
for each other. :-)

Hi Scott,

Dont think we ever met but I lived in Tucson a few years back and now live
in the puget sound area (actually moving to eastern WA next week) anyways I
am gonna tell you from experience......There is no caching like Arizona
caching...The trees suck! Where I am moving to in Eastern WA (Tri Cities)
is desert terrain.......Whew hew for no trees.......anyways I remember your
team name from when I was in Tucson and if you get a chance when your in
the
area look me up........

I know all about eastern Washington. I went to college in Pullman. Our

The funny thing is that we had pretty much gotten out of the game before
2004, so in my opinion, and my opinion only, I can't consider that old
school.

It did remind me of something funny though. Back in 2006 I logged a
couple finds, and one of the cache owners who started in 2006 welcomed
me to the game and offered to help me get more familiar with the game.
Of course we had over 400 finds and while that is a drop in the bucket
to what many have now, it is hardly a newcomer to the game. :-)

You just *had* to post these, didn't you? I've been trying to get out
to (meaning, find a job in) the Pacific NW area for a while now. You're
not helping my unsatisfied longing for trees and water! :)

Hi everybody!

I'm still around up in the Prescott area, but don't get time/remember
to read the list very often. Hubby "VStar" (he now owns a MotoGuzzi,
not a Yamaha anymore) and I ("Lightning 1996YCJP" reflects my ID
number from the Jeep Posse, of which I am not longer a member, but you
can't change your caching name!!) get out to cache only sporadically
because of his work and my health problems which are slowly worsening.
But we have fun when we do get out!

I'm of the "old school cachers" -- started in July of 2001 when the
closest cache was in Camp Wood, I think, put out by Larry "Wyle E".
Flash of the Jeep Posse and I put out a bunch of caches to get things
going in the area...wow, that was 8 years ago.

A couple of us Prescott cachers were batting around the idea of
hosting a 5th anniversary Prescott "Beat the Heat" Event like we had
back in summer of 2004. If we were to go ahead and plan and do all the
work to do an event, who might be interested and able to come up and
attend?

Hmmm.... Last I checked we had waterfalls and light houses.

Mooney Falls at Havasupai in the Grand Canyon. We have a few of our own
impressive falls.

Speaking of Wyle E... How many of you other oldtimers remember the time a
non-existent cache was "placed" in Phoenix not far from Wyle E's home.
Others in on the joke kept posting found logs. I think it drove him nuts
for a little while because he couldn't find a cache everyone else seemed to
have no trouble with. Now that was a good joke.

I was hoping my comment would bring Bob out into the discussion,
'cause I figured that he had been caching before me. My first find
July 1, 2001 was actually Prieta View, Camp Wood was the next day on
July 2, 2001.
