This was my reply to your post on groundspeak …

I have found the backlighting to only be any kind of problem when driving and having the unit in the Garmin mounting cradle. It's pretty dim and I often end up holding it in my hand when driving.

When out walking for a cache, not a problem at all.

Maybe it's your sunglasses, ;^)

So i bought the new Colorado 400T and while do LOVE the unit itself and all the Geocaching features it has, I CAN NOT STAND how dim the screen is. Even with the back-light turned all the way up it is almost impossible to see when your in shadows outside and you have to angle it just right to be able to see in sunlight too. Even inside in a dark room it is dim. Forget using it while driving. Too bad.... other than the crappy screen it is an AWESOME unit.

Anyone else with one having the same issue? I updated the firmware which took care of every other issue I saw posted in the forums on-line -- but firmware will not increase the brightness of the lcd type screen they used. : (

I hope Garmin switches the screen type soon! I may have to return this one..... and wait for one with a new screen hardware.
