Subject: Re: [Az-Geocaching] decrypted hints
This is my biggest problem with 'log a DNF...' or 'Email me if you need
a hint'.
It's like a big red flag saying, 'This cache is for locals only, if
you're from out-of-town, forget it!'
My biggest gratification is getting a log on one of my caches from
someone who thought it was interesting enough to include while they were
on vacation/visiting Arizona.
Giving a good hint is an art, and not always easy. A good hint should
spark a thought, or at least narrow down the possibilities, but
shouldn't just spell out the cache location.
My favorite hints for 'remote' caches have warned me to watch for
dangerous wildlife, or admonished me to bring plenty of water...too late
now, I'm already here!
Oh, and I never 'automatically' send a hint if there is a DNF, some
cachers don't want them! If I want/need an extra hint, I'll ask...
