I agree Gale. I appreciate being mentioned regarding the CITO cleanups, and
it's the truth. The opportunity was presented via azgeocaching.com, because
I knew that many AZ cachers didn't spend time on the forums and could have
easily missed a thread there due to the sheer number of posts/threads and
how many levels down things actually go. The best way to gauge interest is
to go right to those who participate here.

But you are right. I found out about caching from a Fox10 story on August
23, 2001, and it wasn't too long after that life began that I discovered
azgeocaching.com, and used the data the site provided to plan all of my
caching adventures. It wasn't until gc.com started hosing the data
extraction that I migrated away and began using PQs to plan my cache trips.
I still spent quite a bit of time on the site, and enjoyed the friendly
ribbing given/received about the stats and how such-and-such person was
coming after me to pass me up in the ranking. It was this community that
made caching such a blast for me. I might not have met/cached with some of
the people I have if it wasn't for the listserv, as many of them again,
don't read the forums. Such an acknowledgement is only fitting, for the
amount of growth fostered by azgeocaching.com's existence.

Wow, you are right. Talk about biting the hand that feeds them. That state
organization is the binding entity that got us (well mostly you Steve, and
others here) to work to put geocaching in a positive light locally. It is
azgeocaching.com that has done so much to promote geocaching here. If it
wasnt for azgeocaching.com, I am not sure if I would be into geocaching as
much as Mike and I are. It wasnt gc.com but Brian through the community on
azgc.com that got the CITOs on the local highway cleanup. It wasnt gc.com,
but Steve through the community on azgc.com that worked with local agencies
on their geocaching policies. It was the community through azgc.com that
made caching good here, not gc.com.

Artemis, I know you read this listserv. Do you see the importance of the
community in azgeocaching? Can you talk to Jeremy about allowing local
organizations like azgeocaching to have a link on the state page? Otherwise
it may be difficult to get the new people into community awareness and good
caching PR.

As for me, I will be placing links to azgeocaching.com in all my pages and
in my sigline. I will be welcoming newbies who post on my cache pages, and
give them the azgeocaching link.

It's not on the "My Account" page, but one recent difference I've noticed is
that the "Search by State" pages used to have links to the various
organizations, websites, etc., for that state (e.g., the Arizona page would
have a link to azgeocaching.com). All those links now appear to be gone.
Guess gc.com can't bear any form of "competition".
