I just downloaded it a few minutes ago:

Huge WOW factor! I can see it having some applications for caching (although
it doesn't appear to accept the dd mm.mmm format for latitude and
longitude).

This ain't gonna run on your 286. See:
http://desktop.google.com/download/earth/index.html. But if you've got the
horses (and the bandwidth), it's worth having a free look. You can download
from that page if your hardware meets the specs there. Try tilting!
