Dear Debbie,
I think the first consideration is where to hold the event. There needs
to be enough room to hold as many people as you want to attend. How
many people will be attending???? That can be the $64 question. If you
plan on 40 or 50 you might have 100, it's just to hard to say and I
would not want to limit the number of people that could come to the event.
Next, I would think some kind of food plan needs to be considered. If
you don't have speeches, classes or seminars what is there to do but
eat. What type of menu and who will prepare it. How much of it will be
provided and how much will be brought by the attendees.
I should think there needs to be some sort of activity that will hold
some interest for most of the people coming to an event. For the "Beat
the Heat" event Trisha designed a very nice scavenger hunt that included
2 new caches. I made a test run on the course the day before and took
about 1 1/2 hours to complete while the winning team the next day took
just over 1 hour. Trisha had xerox copies of many of the local caches
laid out for people to take and go find. My wife and I also brought one
of our miniature horses for people to love on and Linda gave cart rides
for anyone that was interested.
If you can develop a theme that ties in with the location I expect that
will generate interest. Trisha tied the very hottest days in the valley
with some very nice weather up here. Even with the heat here it was
cooler than Phoenix.
If somebody or bodies could be convinced to place a brand new cache that
build a little more interest.
Try to think of things that department stores use to lure you through
the doors, just to have you look around and hopefully buy something. If
an event has all the ingredients to lure you there you should have a
successful event cache, in my humble opinion.
