I think the differences were significant. I was on Tonto NF land (where Geocaching is OK), so that ranger would have been out of his jurisdiction to tell me anything had he shown up. The other difference was the fact that he was MCSO that worked out of Saguaro Lake. Other than that, the only other thing I could think might have been favorable for me is the DPS ID card hanging from my rear-view mirror. But in all honesty, I think that had little to do with anything. The interaction between my daughter and I as we emerged from the desert most likely influenced his perception greatly.
