Monica,

Some cars actually have a very thin wire mesh in the front windshield. This mesh is part of the design of the safety glass that helps keep the windshield intact so it does not shatter in sharp jagged edges in a collision. If your car is one of these you will find it very difficult to impossible to get a lock from the dash. If it is posible try moving the GPS near a side window which do not have the wire mesh.
