Since Justin and I both had the day off we decided to go for a hike and place a cache.  We went up into the Superstition Mountains where we had hiked as scouts.  We had not been there in quite a long while and figured this would be a great place for a cache, a nice challenging hike and one heck of a view!!!

To reach the stash you have to hike up the o' Peralta Trail on the south side of the Superstitions.  Heading east on US89 you come to the road that leads to the trail head. (N33 20.164 W111 26.408)  You travel down the dirt road for 7 miles to the parking area, (N33 23.674 W111 21.021) this road can easily be traveled be car.  It used to be free but the state parks have started to charge for using this area now, it cost $4.00 for 24 hr. parking permit.  Machines there take cash, coins, or credit cards.  There are two parking lots one where the permit machines are and an upper one where the trail head is located.  Once reaching the trail head (N33 23.861 W111 20.865) you want to take the Peralta Canyon Trail 102 to the left.

The hike is 2.5 miles and rises from the trail head at 2400 ft. to the cache located at 3900 ft.  That's a 1500 ft. climb, all up hill.  It took us about 2 hrs. to hike to the top and about 1 hr. to hike back down.  There are some really great views along this hike and some interesting rock formations, balancing rocks, a rock that looks like dinosaur head, and a neat little cave(N33 24.877 W111 21.723) to explore.  The view on top from Fremont Saddle (N33 24.936 W111 21.857) is spectacular, and  one of the best views of Weavers Needle around.  This is what makes the hike worth it, pictures don't do it justice, you must see this one for yourself.

Once reaching the saddle and taking a rest the cache is located about 600 ft. to the south west and about 200 ft. up the mountain.  The cache is a small ammo can and is located in and amongst some big boulder type rocks.  The area is pretty well hidden from the public and paths below so you shouldn't have to worry to much about people seeing what you are doing.

Even if you can't find the Lost Dutchman's Gold you might just get lucky and find the Fremont Saddle Geocache!!!
