Thanks for the relevant research, Paul!
The Contention Townsite does appear to be within the boundaries of the
preserve.
If I really wanted to put a cache there, I would still contact the BLM
and open a dialog on the subject. There may or may not be special
considerations based on the fact that it is a highly disturbed area.
Even if a cache could not be placed at the actual townsite, a cache
placed at a location _overlooking_ the townsite might be pretty cool
just the same!
