I opened my e-mail today to give a Beeline CITO update and noticed the
string of e-mails on the coin. I'll add my two cents on those in a moment.
First my update. ADOT was out again today on our section of the Beeline. I
only counted four bags on both side this time. That stretch is definitely
clean!
I'm also thinking of a cleanup on March 24th (unfortunately the only day I
have free for the first quarter). This conflicts with the camping event
though so I wanted to see if anyone would be around to participate. It
won't take many and I bet we have plenty of time for lunch after, so if you
would be interested in a Phx Beeline cleanup on March 24th please reply here
or directly to me.
As for the coin design. I didn't take it that the intent was to slight
anyone, rather to remember the first CITO event in AZ. I also felt that by
posting it they were open to suggestions for changes. Having the Tucson
events on the other side of the coin would certainly make it more of a
statewide coin. As far as I know these are the only two "adopted" sections
in the state. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Taking out the CITO always Cache reference would make it more acceptable.
But would it also make it less historic? If the intent of the coin is to
honor the first CITO event, and then have other coins representing other
events, then the coin is good as designed. If it is intended to honor all
AZ CITO efforts then maybe a design change is in order. Maybe add a listing
circling around the edge of the coin of all CITO events through 2006 (by
name or waypoint to make it fit).
A coin series makes sense, but it would require someone to step up and
design/commission each new coin. It would also be more meaningful if there
was a design element that was consistent on each coin. This could also be
used on any subsequent AZ CITO coins. A good approach would be to work
together on the design which is what I thought the offer was in the first
place. Could we use the CITO logo on our coin somewhere? I didn't see it
and don't know if there would be any copyright issues. Maybe change the
finger pointing hiker to signal the frog!
I also agree with AZTech. Phoenix has other opportunities for CITO events.
Tempe town Lake has an adopt-the- lake program, cities have adopt-a-street
programs. It doesn't have to be an adopted segment either. I'm sure we
could get a good turnout on an organized one time only event somewhere where
it is needed.
Whatever design it turns out to be, the thought is a good one and I'm sure
I'll end up buying more than I need!
