[Az-Geocaching] REI experience

National Park and National Forest are completely separate things. There
are no longer caches in national parks, but national forests are clearly
acceptable. State lands are the same. BLM sees caching as an
acceptable use of the land, and the only caveat to caching on State Land
is the annual permit in order to remain legal while caching out there.
The guy from REI is playing the role of arrogant elitist and I would
consult with his manager about the statements made to you regarding this
activity. He is wholly incorrect and is no different than the cache
pirate incident that plagued caching for a brief period of time a few
years ago. The only real difference is he isn't hiding the fact that
he/she/it is doing so.
