[Az-Geocaching] A different Wow

Same here. I met Evilfish at a cache in a residential park stuck inside the
BBQ grill, and it wasn't a chilly day outside. We met up again later that
day for some afternoon caching at Silly Mountain. There was a cache in
Bulldog Canyon that I went out for a FTF on, and while walking back from
another one at the top of the nearby mountain, I heard some scratching
around in some nearby bushes in the vicinity of the cache, and I hear RTW
yell "nooooooooooooo!" having seen my name on the logsheet first. I met up
with him, and we talked about how he saw my truck in the parking lot
already, and sprinted to the cache hoping I was meandering along and that
he'd beat me there. AZcachemeister's bus stop caches (the very pricey bus
stops built along non-existant routes) that I would run out the door at
12:30am looking for a FTF on. Once I got to the point of having 3 or 4 FTFs
in a row on those, I wanted to see if I could bat 1.000 on the entire
series, which I did. As goofy as those caches were, I got a kick out of the
whole concept, and the FTFs just added to the fun of it. There are so many
things I've gotten out of caching over the years (4 years today!), that as
my interests evolve, so will my caching and what I choose to do in order to
maximize my enjoyment of it.
I'll cache to my own beat. Some days the tempo will be up and I'll go for a
numbers day. Some days it will be slower, and I'll hike 15 miles for ONE
cache. It's all in what you make of it I've learned. Worry so much about
how others are involved in things (shared/co-ftf, for example), and it
ultimately detracts from the enjoyment of the activity for that person.
Jeff and I have had our differences over the years, but hey.make your way up
to my stomping grounds and we'll hop in the Jeep for a trip up to the Ice
Caves and grab a few caches along the way. I also hear that the Beartooth
Highway repairs will be completed by the target of Oct 15th, with *just*
enough time to get up there and enjoy the views before snow buries the
highway for the next 5 months. The last time I was up there, I came across
some Grizzly tracks (mom/2 cubs), which was a treat in and of itself.
Thankfully, I didn't see the bears themselves, because I left the RPG in my
other pants that day.

You know, some of my fond memories of caching are late night raids to snag a
first to find in the summer, or just to grab a late night cache. I recall
meeting Highway Havoc around midnight at one cache, Tamos Clan Destiny and 8
Feet at Patriotic Cache. Another time, we saw Randman at a late night run.
Magical Memories at another....too many to count. Really tho, geocaching is
just fun for us. Hopefully we will enjoy the new website/ game groundspeak
is putting out there too.

I think Ken has hit the nail on the head. This is a game/hobby folks! I
think some of you take this WAY to seriously. We too were obsessed with
geocaching and the numbers for quite awhile, but after stepping back a
little, realized that in the whole realm of things, this doesn't mean squat.
We now enjoy going after caches that we really "want" to pursue, instead of
just going after caches to add to our numbers. We exceeded our personal
goals and realized just how compulsive/obsessive this game can be. Of
course, where we are located right now, we probably couldn't get 20-25
caches in a day, anyway. Geocaching is supposed to be "fun", and I think
some of you have seemed to lost sight of that. There's plenty of other
things to do out there, and maybe some of you who spend hours on the
computer everyday, should keep that in mind. The best days I ever had in
Geocaching have been the days where myself, AJ.JR, Sprocket, Highway Havoc,
Malcolm of Taylor's Tomb Raiders, RTW, and various other cachers have taken
tough hikes to beautiful places and gotten only one cache in a day. Sharing
the day with your friends in the outdoors is what it's all about. It seems
anymore that the the majority of posts on the listserv have nothing to do
with caching or discussing geocaching, but are more of a social nature. If
thats the direction the listserv is heading ,than so be it. I've never shyed
away from expressing my opinion, and Jeff has stated how HE feels about
co-FTF's, which is only HIS opinion. I'm sure Jeff has other things going on
in his life right now, but it's really nobody elses business. Also,Trisha
has other things going on in her life right now that are a lot more
important than geocaching and I would guess she's put things into
perspective. Just let it go and move on to something else, like the next
pizza event or whatever.............
