I haven't, but I do have an interesting story about the Bull Dog Canyon
permit......
Was out at the entrance gate off of Usery Pass the other day looking for
"It...has you.
by Brian - Team A.I." As I was looking for the "Pill" a water truck and a
little Ford Ranger truck pulled up to the gate. The water truck driver got
out and used the combination to open the gate. After the two trucks pulled
thru, the ranger driver was closing the gate when 3 women on horseback asked
if they could ride thru before closing the gate as one of the horses would
not go thru the horse gate. After some discussion between the two truck
drivers (in spanish) they let the horses thru and almost immediately a black
Jeep pulled up and the driver was waving his permit out the window and
calling to leave the gate open. About then, the two truck drivers thru up
their hands and climbed into their vehicles and left. I volunteered to
close the gate for the Jeep and upon doing so, discovered that the padlock
would not lock because it was still turned to the combo!!! He he he......So
now, my permit had expired last month and I have yet to get a new one, so
the thought crossed my mind to go ahead and enter this restricted area with
my vehicle, after all, I only needed to go about a quarter mile. But I
decided that I had better wait until I had the proper permit in possession.
Approximately two minutes after locking the gate and returning to my
vehicle, a Park Ranger came flying up as if on a call. Gave me an ominous
look as if to question if I had been inside the restricted area with a
vehicle. Never stopped me to ask, but he sure looked interested.
Anyway, that day I made the correct choice of following the rules! :-)
