When I drop off a TB, if I am not sure that I will be logging it the same day,
I will attatch a note to it saying when I expect to be able to log it and ask
that the finder wait until I log it.

I have also logged a retrieval on a TB (not using Ken's suggestion) and was
then contacted by the previous holder asking me to remove my entries so that
he could log it first.  So now if I see that the TB is not listed as being
located in the cache where I found it I will wait a day or so before logging
it.
