Alright so I jumped the gun a bit. $30 isn't that bad. Here in New Mexico
though we are having a hard enough time getting new geocachers. If people
start placing members only caches its only going to be that much more
difficult.
Now on the flip side Jeremy has never allowed sponsers. Even people who get
sponsers for their individual caches will not get them approved. Didn't
someone in Tucson have a sponser from a realtor for a couple of caches but
then after geocaching took off they wouldn't allow it anymore? I've spoke
to a guy in North Phoenix that had a sponsor offering thousands of dollars
but Jeremy wouldn't allow it...imagine that cache!! Why am I rambling about
sponsers?? If Jeremy won't allow individual geocachers to have a sponser to
place a cache then why would it be alright to have sponsers for the main
geocaching page? If he did then that could cause some problems.
I agree with most of you though, I hope the things that are free now remain
free and extra things that they come up with go to the members only section.

Hmmm, I don't know what to think. I wish he had explored banner adds
first. I'm sure garmin, magellan, and some online outdoor stores would
probably be lining up to get a banner ad on such a popular resouce on the
net.

I personally hope that he doesn't start moveing anything we require for
the stats to the subscription site. I might have to take some donations
if he does. So that we can keep them up. Of course that might happen
anyways if people want us to track the "members only caches". Somehow I
can't imagine that was as big of a request as he makes it out to be.

Oh well... we'll just have to ride this one out and see how it goes.

Currently, geocaching.snaptek.com runs on 3 machines, none of them even
close to capacity. I would imagine that if we were taking a zillion hits
a month that it was noticable to the rest of the school that we work at it
would have to either go away or get some money to pay for it's own
bandwith too. I doubt that will ever happen, we are currently only
getting 125,000 hits a month as the high. It would have to be a lot more
than that to even start to show up on the radar.
