Last night at Home Depot I thought I found the perfect item.  It was a 
clear tube with rubber caps on each end.  One side is glued on and the 
other is removable to put nails and such in.  The only problem is that it 
has a slit in it so that you can squeeze it to get the items out.  My 
concern about that is that the contents of the cache could get wet.  I 
might pick one up this afternoon and see if there is anyway to seal the slit.
