Woman worker killed on Arizona 87, lane still closed Teana Wagner The Arizona Republic Oct. 2, 2007 08:05 AM A vehicle hit and killed a female worker cleaning the edge of northbound Arizona 87 near Gilbert Road Tuesday morning. The worker, a woman in her mid 40s, was along the roadway for when the vehicle struck her around 7:15 a.m. The woman died on the scene as a result of trauma caused by the collision, the Department of Public Safety said. The northbound left lane was to remain closed as the investigation of the fatality continued, officials said. Northbound traffic was reported heavy as a result of the accident, but southbound traffic did not seem to be affected. The woman was an employee for a contract company called Anderson Maintenance that cleans the edges of the roadway, the public safety department said. Although the transportation department is working on construction about ten miles north of the accident near Beeline Highway and Bush Highway, the worker was not with the transportation department, spokesperson Bill Pederson for the state Department of Transportation said. "The construction we had going on near the Beeline Highway and Bush Highway had nothing to do with this," Pederson said. This is our adopted section of highway. Brian Team A.I.
