I tried sending this last night but it bounced due to the attached files.. No now I am using photobucket links...:::

Also CO, AZ, NM, UT with a tad of bleed over into surrounding states due to the area selections, comes to 269.6 MB required. So it would depend on how large a card you have. Mine is 1GB so I have most of the Western region in Topo and Steet maps on the 60cx.

I have found it really depends on the area in question to know which is better detail..

If these come through here are two examples .. topo vs topo 2008

On set is Squaw Peak in Phoenix area the other is Mnt Lemmon in Tucson area.
The red area in the top left shows which version is which in each picture..

You be the judge.

We are flying to PHX tonight and don't have any extra micro cards to load some of the new maps into my GPS.  I've heard they are bigger files.  With the old Topo I have Utah, Az, NM and CO all on one chip.  I suspect that that won't be true with this new one.  Not sure I need ready access to all those states at one time unless I'm at the 4 Corners area...

Thanks, Richard!  I'll be interested to hear how they are out in the wild.  And I'll be sure to post my review when mine arrive.

Just loaded Topo 2008 and it looks pretty cool, the shading is very helpful though only seen on the PC.  Not sure it's a must have but for the price it's a nice upgrade.

After reading the thread and considering the rebate, I just order it ;-^

How's it compare to the older Garmin Topo maps?

There's some discussion on geocaching.com about the new maps' accuracy and value at < http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=165968&hl=garmin%20%20topo%20%202008&st=0 >,  but Amazon has them available for $59.10 < http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-reviews/B000RAASFK/sr=8-1/qid=1187035307/ref=cm_cr_dp_all_helpful/002-0068586-1894469?ie=UTF8&n=172282&qid=1187035307&sr=8-1#customerReviews > and Garmin's offering a $30 rebate off that < http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/mapSource/topous.jsp >.

Are they worth $30?
