I to started out using Garmin GPSr units and my first one was a GPS 72. I got at Wal-Mart for $152.00. It is a very basic unit but it will help you find caches.

I have since moved up to a GPSMAP 60C, that has all the bells and whistles. I bought it at gpsnow. com and had it in a couple of days after ordering it. They provided very good service...

My son started out with a etrax legend and it has a few more whistles than the 72 and gave good service and gpsnow.com has them for 149.00, which makes them a good starting unit.

I also recommend getting a battery charger and rechargeable batteries. They will cost you more to get started but the money you save be recharging, way out weighs there cost. I can recommend energizer rechargeables, I started with a eight pack and have been using them for over a year, with many recharges.

Subject: [Az-Geocaching] Needed: advice for my first GPS

Ok I know everyone is probably booored out of their minds on this subject. Can anyone "briefly" give me a few hints on what my first GPS should be? I really don't want to spend more than $200 for the first one. I would like to know just a couple of things to look for in a system. Someone told me that I should be able to interface with my computer at home. So basically I don't know much but would appreciate a few heads on what to buy. If I get a user friendly GPS I know it would be a short order to get a more advanced one. Thanks for any tips.

Marsha
