I can't for the life of me figure out how to get that silly 4x4 with all 4 on the ground, even from the get-go.

Good in geography, but I never claimed to be a good 4x4 driver. In fact, I am not that good (too timid)

An Hour?  Come on.  It took me 347 seconds, and I only got three in the wrong place the first time – that was because they had me place a state in the middle of an empty map with no reference points, and I was off a few miles.  This might be good for kids, though.
