A couple obvious questions strike me...

Have you changed the GPS model in Preferences from Magellan to Garmin? Did you remove the cable for your 315 and plug the one for the Foretrex into the same serial cable or a different one? Those are probably where I would start, since Garmin/Magellan use different communication protocols.
