When the Humboldt Fire broke out in Tonto NF on August 11, we disabled
our “Humboldt Mountain “cache until we could check on it. On Friday
I called the Ranger office and was told the road was open to the public, so
Judi and I drove up yesterday. Amazingly, the cache survived, although the fire
line clearly came within ten feet of the hiding place. Read our log entry dated
21 August, where we’ve also posted a couple of pictures from the area:
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=61961139-d471-4f0c-8020-d99643b7c2a3.
Not only did the cache survive, it still contains, from two years ago,
a yellow brochure for some hot-air ballooning company. I wonder why no one’s
ever traded for it?
