There are several threads on groundspeak on the Garmins Colorado models. The one with the most info. ( well, posts anyway ) is : http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=179373 I picked one up at REI last Thursday as I was unable to resist the "gotta have it now" urge. I could've waited a bit longer ( mid-Feb ) and prolly picked it for about $100 less but, oh well. The unit physically is nice, easy to hold, etc. The Rock n Roller is good and I only find entering data a bit of a pain ( spin, press, spin, press, etc. ). The 60 series' nice, tight "keyboard" was much nicer, and faster. My opinion is that given the current firmware ( and Garmin will certainly push out updates ) unless you load geocaches as POIs ( or maybe waypoints I guess ) the unit is tough to use as a caching unit due to the caches not showing up on screen unless they are POIs or waypoints. Using them as POIs is better in my opinion as you can use a GSAK macro and load the caches and have the icons appear as per the geocaching icons ( and at any zoom level ). Loading them as waypoints works too but getting custom icons ... I don't know if you can do it with waypoints. You used to be able to load custom waypoint symbols in the 60 series units but it doesn't seem to be true with the Colorado. However, loading them as POIs does not give you the full cache page, with logs. For that reason, I also copy a GSAK export ( GPX file ) to my Colorado. Yes, there is duplication of data vis a vis POI load and GPX file but it's the only way that I can think of to get custom icons AND full cache descriptions. Keeping in mind that I've only had this for a few days so there may be better ways to do things. There are many naggy problems with the unit ( slow startup, some settings don't stay saved, etc. ) but that's OK with me ( for now ). I accepted that as an early adopter I'd get something that needed the kinks worked out. BTW, the $100 buys you TOPO US loaded in memory and about 1gb of extra memory. Note that you can also add SD cards. = Richard -----Original Message----- From: az-geocaching-bounces@listserv.azgeocaching.com on behalf of Will Sent: Mon 1/21/2008 2:03 PM To: listserv@azgeocaching.com Subject: Re: [Az-Geocaching] FW: Only at REI - The New,Innovative Garmin Colorado GPS Thanks Robert. The 400t appears to be the top of the line in the Colorado series but for $100 bucks more than the 300 what more do you get?
