Having driven from Sho Low to the east valley while working I would suggest the interstate route if you are going to be tired from driving and may be driving this area at dusk or after dark.
The Sho Low  Globe drive is awesome it just depends on your time frame and priorities.
I do suggest if you us the interstate route to check your fuel before   leaving the Flagstaff area as the next fuel would be Camp Verde.
