Some one mentioned that if you have a valid hunting license, that is only true if you are actively hunting, with a gun scouting does not count. If not you are considered trespassing. I would also recommend the permit. Someone's already pointed out how to get the permit, but this site has all the details: http://www.land.state.az.us/programs/natural/rec_offroad_permit.htm The State Land Department (AKA "The Land Trust") has no objection to Geocaching. But caching or otherwise, you can be nicked for a pretty hefty fine if you are found on Trust Land without the permit, so it's a pretty good investment of fifteen or twenty dollars. For most folks that's probably less than the gas it costs to drive to a patch of Trust Land these days. Answer Yes. You must have a recreational permit or a hunting or fishing license to be on State Land. However, a hunting or fishing license is valid only if you are actively engaged in hunting or fishing. Recreational Permits are available for individuals and families and are issued for one year from the date of purchase. The Individual Permit is $15.00 and the Family Permit is $20.00. Non-profit group and event recreational permits are also available. They require a different permit and usually require a longer processing time. You may pick up your recreational permit in person at the State Land Department main office at 1616 West Adams, Phoenix AZ 85007. Permit applications can also be requested by mail or by telephone during normal business hours by calling (602) 364-2753. ----- Original Message ----- From: "EvilFISH" To: Sent: Tuesday, April 20, 2004 5:47 PM Subject: Re: [Az-Geocaching] trust land permits > Where did you find this little jewel of information? > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "William Noll" > To: > Sent: Tuesday, April 20, 2004 5:27 PM > Subject: RE: [Az-Geocaching] trust land permits > > > > A valid Arizona hunting license will also allow you on State Trust Lands > > (it's a little more, though, $25.50). Having the fishing license in hand while not having a pole or being anywhere near water will not count. You have to be doing whatever the sport is.. ie: A deer hunting permit from last season will not get you anything nor will walking with a fishing pole 10 miles from the nearest water source. Permits can be obtained on a walk in basis. I had mine and was out of the office in less then 10 minutes. -----Original Message----- From: az-geocaching-admin@listserv.azgeocaching.com [mailto:az-geocaching-admin@listserv.azgeocaching.com]On Behalf Of William Noll Sent: Tuesday, April 20, 2004 5:28 PM To: listserv@azgeocaching.com Subject: RE: [Az-Geocaching] trust land permits A valid Arizona hunting license will also allow you on State Trust Lands (it's a little more, though, $25.50). I could certainly arrange for the TB to be in the presence of uniformed officers, or it could spend a shift with me at work, helping keep my squads safe. So even when not in season, and with no implement in hand, it is still considered 'hunting', and you do not need a rec permit. Now fishing is another matter... As pointed out by Evil Fish..
