To both Bill in Willcox and Virgil ... I have two PDAs: an original Palm Pilot Personal - the original PDA, I think - and a Handspring. The Palm is for everyday use; the Handspring for geocaching. Neither is a fancy, latest-and-greatest unit, and they both do their jobs just fine. I picked up the Handspring as a $79 refurbished unit at Fry's several months ago. I wanted a PDA for geocaching to avoid printing log sheets for caches we pursue, both for added convenience and to avoid the paper waste. It has enough memory to hold way more caches than we would ever want to pursue in a day. We can also download Mapquest maps, but I haven't found them to be of much use, probably because I just haven't played with the settings enough. It's also handy to have the phonebook I use in Outlook and my everyday PDA with us. I love having it out in the wild and would never go back to printed log sheets. I also use the Notes part of the Palm Reader software to record what we took, what we left, and other stuff about the caches we visit. Despite the difference in their ages, the two PDAs use the Palm OS, so they function almost identically. As with any computer purchase, it's the OS and software that make it work. Play with whatever you're considering and make sure the screen is easy to read, the buttons are easy to hit, that the stylus works well, etc. If I can answer any specific questions, just yell! -----Original Message----- From: az-geocaching-admin@listserv.azgeocaching.com [mailto:az-geocaching-admin@listserv.azgeocaching.com] On Behalf Of Virgil Silhanek Sent: Saturday, July 26, 2003 11:19 PM To: listserv@azgeocaching.com Subject: RE: [Az-Geocaching] Sony PDA Those that do use a PDA for geocaching, what do you use/recommend? I had also been thinking about buying a PDA, but have never really used one very much.
