One of the reasons they may have been slow is that they have to hit the database numerous times with every cache page, looking to see how many finds each logged user has in their total. I believe this may have been the reason they removed the totals next to each user's name. Brian explained this in a previous post. But the totals appear to be back today, so maybe they found a way around that. One thing I noticed on geocaching.com, my name shows up as "Q-Tip (FroBro Q-Tip)" now. It used to be just "FroBro Q-Tip." I'm searching for an explanation to this on the site. -FroBro Q-Tip -----Original Message----- From: az-geocaching-admin@listserv.azgeocaching.com [mailto:az-geocaching-admin@listserv.azgeocaching.com]On Behalf Of Holmes, Richard Sent: Wednesday, September 18, 2002 9:48 AM To: 'listserv@azgeocaching.com' Subject: RE: [Az-Geocaching] Error in stats? I'm concerned that Geocaching's popularity has overwhelmed the geocaching.com servers. As a broadband subscriber, I tend to attribute slow response, correctly most of the time, to far end equipment loading. Friday evening through Sunday night response is agonizingly slow. I also use Yahoo as a metric; if I see slow response on a site, I attempt a few contacts with Yahoo; invariable their response is "eye-twinkling". (There's one for you, Trisha; biblical probably. But then, I tangent.) I'm reluctant to criticize my funprovider, but I think Geocaching.com needs a plus-up. (Trisha, that's a Pentagon term for adding funding to a program.) Yup, we are still cleaning up from the last round of changes. We'll announce when we THINK we have everything working again. The changes on the official website were minor by appearance, but are causeing us to have to make signioficant changes to our website.... Probably mostly our fault for not writing it better in the first place, but hind sight is 20/20. Unfortunatly the out of state and webtotal column are completely gone, and probably aren't comming back. What happened over the weekend was that Jeremy switch his entire site over to using static pages that are cached on the fly. They probably only get updated whenever there is something changed on the cache. With this being the case, he can no longer put the total for caches found on the individual cache pages since they would only be correct on the page with the last cache someone logged. Anyway, without that information we loose 2 columns of data from the team stats page. I guess we are truely only an Arizona stats page now. As for a couple of stats missing, we have found a couple of cache pages that you just plain can't get. They come back with an error, so we can't update those stats till Jeremy fixes his site. Also a causualty is the code that crawles the archived caches seems to be completely broken, and I haven't found a way to make it work again yet, so any changes to an archived caches won't show up at all unless someone tells us about it, so that we can go manually go and grab the missing/updated page.
