Libby; The problem with someone placing you on their permit is, you need to have the permit with you when you're in the area. Red ink is used for the permit number, and photocopies are not a valid permit. ($5000 fine if caught driving back there without a valid permit). I though there was a way the Mesa Ranger District office would mail the application to you, you sign and return to them, and they'll return it via mail to you. If I remember correctly, you provide all of the self-addressed stamped envelopes. If you haven't already, call the Mesa Ranger District office at: 480-610-3300 for further info. My permit expires 2/4/02 and will be getting a new one. I'll ask about mailing permits and pick-up a blank application then end of this month (if possible).
