[Az-Geocaching] fire

They just closed a huge recreation area in Albuquerque along the Rio Grande
because of the same thing. Lots of people are pissed!! They let the rich
people who live along the area "patrol" this area on horseback but anyone
else that enters can be fined up to $5000!! I think 4 or 5 geocaches were
planted here and I used to Mt. Bike the area at least once a week after
work.

Trisha, my thanks to you and everyone else who responded
so quickly and with such force to this fire. My folks
are retired in Prescott, and live on Copper Basin Road,
which is the South evacuation line. They could see the
flames from their driveway last night. Luckily, the fire
seems to be pushed back and things are much better tonight.
I think a great, overwhelming response minimized the fire loss
to only a few homes and no loss of life. It could easily have
been so much worse. THANK YOU!

BTW, to everyone else, this fire was apparently
started by campers, despite signs and fines regarding
campfires. The Prescott community is asking for a closure
to the Prescott Natl forest until the fire danger decreases.
No decisions yet, but I suspect this is a real possibility.
This is only May, and the drought conditions show no relief
in site. Hopefully this may/will only apply to overnight
camping, but something to be aware of.

Report from Prescott:
Yup, Quartz Mtn is not only archived, it is toast. The entire Mtn (sad)
I am working 12 on 12 off communications for evac/patrols/security
thru the Jeep Posse/Sheriff office. National Guard even called in
today, (and I met Gov. Hull.)
Please pray the wind will remain calm, it is the only thing that saved
us from losing more homes today.
