*** news release ***

With the start of the monsoon season and increased moisture throughout most
of the state, the Bureau of Land Management announced it has lifted the
majority of the fire closures as of July 19 on public lands in Arizona.
However, several areas of public lands will remain closed including, most of
the Arizona Strip north of the Grand Canyon, and the Hualapai and Cerbat
Mountains southeast and northwest of Kingman, Ariz.

Acting BLM State Director Carl Rountree said, "BLM fire management
specialists have determined the fire danger on public lands has been reduced
with the increased moisture, and it is safe to lift the closures imposed
before the Fourth of July. Although the closures will be lifted in most of
these areas, all of Arizona's public lands will still be under some level of
fire restrictions."

Most of the Arizona Strip will remain closed, except for two areas - the
Paria Canyon and Coyote Buttes areas of the Vermilion Cliffs National
Monument, and the Virgin River Gorge Campground. The Arizona Strip has not
received the amount of moisture necessary to lift all fire closures. In
fact, a drying trend in the weather is forcasted for this area. In addition,
the Hualapai and Cerbat Mountains are also not out of fire danger at this
time, and will remain closed until sufficient moisture is received.

Fire restrictions for the opened public lands will vary for each BLM field
office, depending of the level of fire danger. It is important for public
land users to be aware of the fire restrictions for the areas they plan to
camp or visit. Each BLM field office has outlined its fire restrictions, and
they are available by calling your local BLM office.
