A down side of the Members only caches is not everyone is a member....

It only costs $30 per year to become a member, and membership is open to everyone. If someone is just starting out geocaching, then they should find a few of the non-member caches, and once they become hooked on geocaching then I recommend they upgrade to membership.

Since I am the "owner" of my caches, I feel that I have the right to do some things to help protect my "property". I'll only make a few of my caches "Members-Only". All of my virtual caches, and caches not located in urban areas, developed parks, or places that receive many visitors, will remain accessible to all. I'm also not sure if I'll keep my "Members-Only" caches in that state permanently. I'm trying it as an experiment for now.

Most of the geocachers who subscribe to this group are honest and ethical geocachers - however, we cannot discount the possibility that there are some unscrupulous people who are lurking on the geocaching site and desire to plunder some easy caches. These people likely won't try to plunder any caches that are not easy to find and are far off the beaten path, so there is no reason to make caches like that "Members-Only". Only the easy caches in the city or in popular areas should earn the "Members-Only" designation.
